About the weather

OF COURSE you know about this! It´s in all websites about Iceland. Still, you scoff and say..."oh well, we´ve been through Typhoon Haiyan / Hurricane Katrina / Alaskan snowstorms / Arabian sandstorms, etc."

The weather in Iceland is unpredictable. Even when it is "summer." Just click on the video on your right for evidence. This was taken just this week, at supposedly the beginning of the summer months. THAT which fell off the road into a ravine is a camper. Vans and campers are notoriously easy to destroy by highland winds. We´ve even seen sedans go flying off the road.

To keep safe, Icelanders follow the weather forecast very very closely. It´s a lifeline...literally. Icelandic radio and TV broadcast weather changes on the hour and the weather service has an English language forecast for those who don´t understand Iceland.

Before setting off, PLEASE check the following websites:
  • http://en.vedur.is/ Icelandic Meteorological Service
  • www.safetravel.is  Here you can register your travel plans. Better safe than sorry.

his idea has been brewing in our mind for a long time. Mainly because we are tropical transplants in the cold world that is Iceland. Living as brown people in a homogeneously white society has its perils. There are often misconceptions, miscommunication and misunderstandings. We thought that it might do our Icelandic neighbors good if they experience first hand, the Philippines. Hence, Travel Exchange (TRx). We connect Icelandic thought influencers (artists, writers, politicians, environmentalists, etc) to their counterparts in the Philippines and spend time with them.  In the same way, we connect the Pinoy thought influencers with those in Iceland.

It´s like an artist residency with a conscience.

The idea also evolved into US developing a page for our friends making their way to Iceland. There are more of you every year and we are so happy that this is so! We were getting a bit lonely here at the edge of the Arctic. This is what THIS website is about.

Nope, you are not disrupting our lives by asking us to help out with the itinerary. We might even join you! See, we even too up a video of us traveling with friends who happened to arrive at the same time in Iceland from the Philippines by way of Berlin, San Francisco and South Africa. Enjoy!
